In the language acquisition strand of Scarborough’s Reading Rope, we see that knowledge building (facts, concepts, etc.) impacts the ability to read skillfully. Not surprisingly, knowledge building also has a direct impact on vocabulary among other parts of the rope.

The many strands that are woven into skilled reading are language comprehension and word recognition.
